About the Project
The “Youth’s Critical Perspectives on the Peace Process” project is an inter-regional initiative designed to engage young people from Armenia’s regions in discussions regarding regional security, peacebuilding, and normalization efforts. The project aims to provide a platform for open dialogue, critical analysis, and the exchange of perspectives on current geopolitical developments and their implications for the future.
The initiative is organized jointly by the Caucasus Institute and the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law, with funding provided by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
Project Launch: Youth Forum in Goris
On July 22, the project officially commenced with its first event, a youth forum held in Goris. The forum brought together youth from different regions of Syunik, primarily from Goris, including those from nearby communities such as Tatev, Tegh, Qarahunj, Verishen, Kapan, and Khndzoresk.
Expert Presentations: Security expert Sergey Minasyan and political expert Alexander Iskandaryan delivered presentations addressing the current situation, prospects, and challenges within the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and the Armenia-Turkey normalization process.
Group Work and Discussions: Following the expert sessions, participants engaged in group work to articulate their perspectives, discuss different viewpoints, and explore approaches to peacebuilding.
Next Steps: As part of the project’s structure, 10 participants will be selected from the Goris forum to represent Syunik at the final inter-regional forum scheduled for November in Jermuk. At the final event, participants from Syunik, Gegharkunik, and Tavush will convene to share their findings and review the outcomes of the project.
